Sultanabad is situated in the north of Persia where wonderful carpet weaving continues to this day. (Please see our modern ‘Parsua’ collection on our website www.cjohn.com)
In the latter part of the 19th century Ziegler & Co., an Anglo Swiss firm acquired looms in Sultanabad for the purpose of producing quality decorative carpets for the European taste and in particular for English country houses. These were sold through outlets such as Liberty’s of London and have come to be known as Ziegler Carpets.
Ziegler carpets are still much sought after today and should not be confused by reproductions of inferior quality, from India, Egypt and China etc.
This exceptional example is one of several that are available to be seen on our website. Please contact us to view this or any other rug, carpet or tapestry in the privacy of your home or venue of your choice.
We remain at your service to expertly hand clean and/or restore your existing rugs, carpets and tapestries as regular hand cleaning and minor restoration is essential to retain the beauty and condition of your valued pieces.
